Baked Salmon Recipe
There are so many benefits of eating salmon. Here are some of them: salmon is rich in Omega-3 Fatty Acids; an excellent source of protein, potassium, selenium; it is a great source of Vitamin B1, 2,3,5,6,9, and 12; it has the antioxidant Astaxanthin; it may reduce inflammation, heart disease; lower blood pressure; reduce the risk factor of cancer; protect one's brain, and it tastes good. Consuming 2 servings of salmon a week gives you the Omega 3 nutrients that you need and could help reduce some of the risk factors that come with diseases. I didn’t know that by eating salmon one was getting all of these benefits until I was looking up information on salmon for this article. It’s a good thing that I love the taste of this fish.
Here are 10 Facts about Salmon that you might not have known, I didn’t. After these facts, we then can dive into the recipe that I baked the other night.
1). There are 8 types of Pacific Salmon: Chinook, Coho, Chum, Sockeye, Pink, Steelhead Trout, Masu and Amago salmon (2 Asian Species)
2). Chinook are the largest of the Pacific salmon we see in the Northwest
3). Chinook can live up to nine years and can grow to be more than 100 pounds
4). On average, salmon live 4–5 years but can live up to 7 years
5). Salmon species have adapted to use virtually every part of every stream in the Northwest
6). Salmon can change color to attract a spawning mate
7). Female salmon can have between 1500 and 10,000 eggs and only 0–11 of those eggs will make it to be adults
8). Chinook rear in freshwater from 3 months to a year
9). Salmon is considered a keystone species

Recipe
Preheat Oven: 400 degrees
Cook Time: 20–30 minutes
Prep Time: about 10 minutes
Yields: about 6 servings
Ingredients
*3–4 pounds of salmon
*2 tablespoons of olive oil (any oil will do)
*salt to taste
*pepper to taste
*4 teaspoons minced garlic
*4 tablespoons of lemon juice (you can use fresh lemon if you want to)
*1/2 teaspoon of thyme
*1/2 teaspoon of parsley
*1/2 teaspoon of oregano
*1/2 teaspoon of basil
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Grease a cookie sheet.
Step 2: Take the salmon out of the package and place it on the greased cookie sheet.
Step 3: Sprinkle salt and pepper on the salmon. As much as you like.
Step 4: Set aside.
Step 5: In a small bowl, combine and mix together the olive oil, minced garlic, lemon juice, thyme, oregano, parsley, and basil.
Step 6: Pour the mixture over the salmon and use a pastry brush or spatula to spread the mixture over all the salmon. Make sure the salmon is covered with the mixture.
Step 7: Place the salmon in the oven between 20–30 minutes or until it is flaky.
Step 8: When the salmon is done, take it out of the oven and garnish it with parsley, basil, or any other herbs or spices that you want.
Side Note:
This recipe originally was for 4 salmon fillets which I didn’t have. I liked and had the ingredients (except for the lemon so I substituted it and used lemon juice instead) so I just used the ingredients and came up with the measurements myself. The great thing about this recipe is that you can add and take away any ingredient that you don’t want and add ingredients that you like.
